As part of our crazy, raging social scene, Sameer and I are regular viewers of American Idol. Given our work schedules, we usually end up watching the show off of our DVR during the weekend, and recently it occurred to me that this was maybe the one show we watch that Sonia could watch too (as much as I love TV, even I know that letting Sonia watch Grey's Anatomy is not a good idea). And, I thought it might reinforce Sonia's affection for singing, since of late she has been serenading us more and more with her renditions of such classics as Itsy-Bitsy Spider and the ABC song.
To say Sonia enjoys watching American Idol would be an understatement. After one viewing she began to request "the singers" whenever she thinks she might convince us to turn on the television (although Mickey Mouse remains a neck-in-neck competitor for favorite show). She is the Paula Abdul of our household, pronouncing "I liked it" after each singer finishes (although like Simon she shows complete disdain for Ryan Seacrest, and actively whines until we fast forward to the next song). I'm sure that we are bad parents for letting her watch it, but she just enjoys it too much to deny her.
And, I think it has reinforced her own love of singing, because the amount of singing and dancing has definitely been on the upswing of late. I've noticed that in the back stories for all of the contestants on AI they always have videos of them singing when they are little...so debuting for the first time in the blogosphere, here is Sonia and her rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. All I can say is that she has two tone deaf parents, so it's really not fair to judge her given she has never heard anyone sing well. :-)

That was absolutely adorable. I want more of "the singer."
OMG! I want to eat her up!
