Weekend away

Last weekend we went to our friends Chris and Teri's wedding on Catalina Island, which was great fun, perhaps even more so because we almost didn't get to go. Sameer was supposed to ask Dada and Bebe if they could watch Sonia for the weekend, but amidst all of the frenzy that is his start-up lifestyle these days, apparently he forgot to mention it to them. So, when he called on Thursday to "work out the logistics" for the weekend, he discovered that in fact they were going out of town to attend a wedding themselves. Whoops. Anyway, to make a long story short, after writing a big check to our nanny to stay the weekend with Sonia and imposing on Sanjay to watch Sonia Sunday morning (when our nanny had plans), we headed off to Catalina. Best of all, since Sonia was at home and hanging out with Chuki, we had literally no concerns that she would be upset by our departure. To top it off, Sonia chose the night before we left to finally return to sleeping through the night, so we didn't even have to feel guilty about Chuki having to wake up repeatedly. The photo to the right shows Sonia the morning we were leaving...as you can tell she is clearly distraught over our eminent departure.

Our weekend in Catalina did not disappoint - we got to catch up with lots of Trilogy friends we hadn't seen in a while, and of course enjoyed an open bar and wedding cake at Chris and Teri's big celebration. I particularly liked the fact that it was the other women who were pregnant while I got to celebrate in style, although it's hard to believe in this photo that Mackenzie is the sober member of our party (note: for the record it is a chocolate covered banana, which seems dirtier in the photo than it was in real life). Catalina itself was great to explore, very quaint town with perfect weather and fish & chips on every restaurant menu...a tailor-made destination for LJ.

Sameer and I were glad to return home on Monday - despite it being a great weekend, it was hard being away from Sonia for so long (and Sameer has vowed to take her with us to all future weddings...my apologies in advance if that impacts the upcoming nuptials of anyone who reads this). In a rare photo of Mommy and Sonia you can see that we are very excited to see her, and she is tolerating all of our hugging and kissing. (You can also see in this photo that her Britney Spears-esque abs show that she is not missing any meals.) While we were away, Chuki taught her to give her kisses on her cheek when asked, a feat she will repeatedly perform with Chuki but refuses to do with either Mommy or Daddy. I guess that's what we get for leaving her for the weekend. :-)
